Star Wars Han Solo Film Loses Directors – Ron Howard Possibly Taking Over

Han Solo film

Just 11 short months before release, the Han Solo film has lost its directors. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie) were teaming up to bring a young version of the stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder to life on the big screen, but due to creative differences, that is no longer the case. In a statement, the duo even express how this reason for leaving a project is cliché, but it holds some truth:

Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew.”

Differences in vision and creativity is a tale as old as time, and it has plagued Hollywood to no end. It is for this very reason that many films have fallen into production hell, never to see the light of day again. Thankfully, this is a Star Wars movie, which means the chances of it never being seen are very slim. They just need to find somebody new to helm the project, and according to president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy, “A new director will be announced soon.”

Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources, Ron Howard might be a solid contender to take on the Han Solo film. This was also the case back in the 90’s with The Phantom Menace, but Howard has mentioned that he was never offered such an opportunity. Could you imagine a world where Ron Howard is the director of the first prequel in the Star Wars universe? Better or worse? Getting back on topic, Joe Johnston(Jumanji, Jurassic Park III) is also stated to be a candidate for the job. THR also mentions the following:

It is expected that a new director will take the next several weeks, with the production shut down, to go over what Lord and Miller have shot, re-edit what they’ve filmed and go from there.”

What say you, moviegoers? Do you find it to be troubling that Lord and Miller are no longer attached to the Han Solo film? Do you believe that Ron Howard would be a suitable replacement? If it were up to you, who would you choose to direct the movie? Sound off in the comments section below, and be sure to follow DFTG on Twitter for live gaming and entertainment news 24/7.
