Final Fantasy XIV Gets A New Batch Of PS5 Gameplay Footage (VIDEO)
Though Final Fantasy XIV players are primarily excited for the impending arrival of patch 5.5, the update also brings with it the Open Beta test for the upcoming PlayStation 5 version of the game. Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Open Beta period kicks off on April 13, the same day as the release of patch 5.5. With the test roughly 10 days away, Square Enix has released some new Final Fantasy XIV PS5 gameplay footage to show off some of what to expect from the beta.
During the most recent Final Fantasy XIV “Letter from the Producer LIVE” stream, game director Naoki Yoshida unveiled roughly 16 minutes of gameplay on the upcoming PS5 version of the game. The gameplay kicks off at about one hour and 19 minutes of the stream and, while it’s a bit slow, does take the viewer through some of the enhancements available thanks to the power of the PS5. Check it out below:
As previously reported during the initial announcement of the PS5 version of Final Fantasy XIV, the enhancements include support for 4K resolution, significantly improved frame rates, faster loading times, and haptic feedback support. One complaint the writer had with the initial gameplay reveal is that the ‘faster load times’ were shown with a character teleporting from a major to city to a middle-of-nowhere area, which isn’t exactly the best way to test exactly how good the improved loading times are. The above video thankfully shows a character teleporting to and from Limsa Lominsa, typically a hotbed of activity for the player base. It won’t be a real test until the Open Beta is full of players bouncing back and forth between zones, but, at least it’s a start.
