Fairy Tail Announces New Film With Title and Release Date

Fans of the long running manga and anime series Fairy Tail had a lot to be all fired up about in 2016 as the manga celebrated its 10th anniversary! The manga debuted in August of 2006, and by 2009 a hit Anime was born! The fun and lovable characters of Fairy Tail guild have been a cherished past time for anime fans since.

The franchise enjoyed its first full length feature film, “Fairy Tail The Movie: Phoenix Princess” in 2012. Fans have continued to enjoy season after season of anime and manga since then. With 5 years to plot and scheme, distribution studio GAGA announced to fans on New Years Eve that the second film in the franchise, “Fairy Tail – Dragon Cry” would be released in 2017! The title itself teases that we will likely be following our favorite Dragon Slayers as they battle their way through impossible odds for the honor of their guild and their friends. The official website for the studio added the confirmation for the second film, along with tweets from Hiro Mashima, and the newly established Fairy Tail – Dragon Cry official twitter! The spring release sets it with many other anime, including the return of Attack on Titan. 2017 is shaping up to be an epic year for anime fans!

The film was confirmed in 2015 in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine, and fans were later teased with the title. Mashima himself told fans what the title would be, but up until now, we’ve had no idea of its release or what the title would look like. With this first, teased peek, fans are finally getting a solid if small taste of the feature film.

For those unfamiliar with the premise of the show, here is a short breakdown! Fairy Tail follows a group of powerful wizards who are as rowdy and rambunctious as they are loyal to their guild, aptly dubbed “Fairy Tail Guild”. The manga and anime are set in a fictional earth where magic is bountiful but wrought with dangers. Though there are too many characters to name, the show often features a young wizard named Natsu, and his friend Lucy as they go on adventures and fight for honor and friendship.

The show now has 277 episodes and growing, with volumes of manga and OVAs to keep fans busy for a lifetime (or a weekend if you’re like most of us). You can find the episodes on Crunchydoll, Funimation, and the first season is available on Netflix for those who want to check it out. Are you asking if it’s worth it? Our only response is, AYE SIR!
