The Elder Scrolls 6 Will Use Scans of Real People And Environments

It appears that The Elder Scrolls 6 – whenever it gets released – will be more life-like compared to previous entries in the series thanks to the use of real life people and environments. The folks over at Bethesda recently revealed at PAX East 2019 that the team will be using photogrammetry to scan real-world environments and people into the game in a bid to make things more realistic for players.

As mentioned, the news comes by way of PAX East, wherein Bethesda revealed that the beloved Skyrim Grandma Shirley Curry was already scanned in and will be immortalized in The Elder Scrolls 6 as an NPC that players can visit. Curry recently took a trip to Bethesda after the developer caught wind of a petition created on her behalf that went viral late last year.

The technology reveal itself is actually monumental, as this is one of the first solid details we have about what Bethesda has been working on behind the scenes for the game. The only other possible lead we have to go on is the speculation that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be set in Redfall, though that has yet to be confirmed by anyone within the developer studio.

This is unfortunately the only piece of TESVI-related news we’ll likely have for some time, as Bethesda recently confirmed that both the next Elder Scrolls game and Starfield will both be sitting out of E3 this year. For now, the important thing to note is that they’re working on both games, and we can look forward to enjoying them for ourselves at some point in the future.

So, thoughts on the developer’s use of photogrammetry? Do you think it is worth it in order to add more realism into future games?
