Dormant Capcom Franchises Could Be Revived After Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite
Capcom fans awaiting the return of the Marvel Vs Capcom franchise got a surprise attack of joy this past weekend with the revelation of Marvel Vs Capcom’s existence. This will be the first entry in five years for the series known for including characters from a wide variety of Marvel’s comics and Capcom’s games. Some of these Capcom characters, however, see little appearances outside of the fighting series. It sounds like this could possibly change, as Capcom has stated that they plan to revive many of the classic dormant Capcom franchises for brand new games after work on Marvel Vs Capcom infinite is completed.
In a recent Capcom of Japan press release, which mainly focused on providing details for Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite, the company made it known that Marvel Vs Capcom will not be the only game series that hasn’t had a major title in years that will end such a streak. The statement says:
In addition to regular major title releases each fiscal year, Capcom is currently focused on reviving series that have not had new entries recently, or otherwise dormant IP. Beginning with MARVEL VS. CAPCOM: INFINITE, a return for the series following a five-year hiatus, Capcom looks to enhance its corporate value even further by utilizing its library of rich contents.”
Capcom does not mention which franchises it has in mind, but the company does have a library that spans more than three decades to choose from for material. I’m certainly hoping for a Viewtiful Joe or Okami revival, but heck, I’d settle for a Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers revival. What do you guys think? Are you excited to see Marvel Vs Capcom back? Which of the dormant Capcom franchises would you like to see revived? Let us know in the comments below!
