Cast for the Live-Action Adaptation of Gintama Anime Revealed

More and more Japanese comics are being turned into live-action films or plays nowadays, aren’t they? First came the disappointing US release of Dragonball Evolution (2009), Rurouni Kenshin (2012), Attack on Titan (2015), Ghost in the Shell (coming soon in 2017), and so on. Hundreds, and I mean hundreds, of live-action adaptations have been made based on manga/anime. Similar to other series that start in Shonen Jump magazine, Gintama will be getting it’s very own adaptation. Namely Bakuman, Bleach, and Naruto. Today, the official twitter announced 3 of its’ cast members – Masaki Suda, Shun Oguri, and Kanna Hashimoto – as seen on the image below, respectively.

Hashimoto is a Japanese actress, idol, and pop singer. Talk about a triple threat! She is one of eleven members from the girl group Rev. from DVL. Her major roles in the acting industry include – I Wish (2011), Sailor Suit and Machine Gun: Graduation (2016), and Assassination Classroom (2016).

Sugita and Oguri, on the other hand, have been acting for quite some time. Some of Sugita’s most notable roles include the Kamen Raida series, The Light Shines Only There (2014), and Death Note: Light up the New World (2016). Oguri has an even lengthier history not just in live-action performances, but in voice-acting as well. You can find him voicing Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa (2005), as an actor in Crows Zero series (2007 & 2009) and Space Pirate Captain Harlock (2013) to name a few.
