Disintegration Devs Aiming For An Experience Akin To Halo And Bungie

2020 is filled with major titles coming out this year, with several of these new games being continuations of pre-existing franchises, such as The Last of Us Part II and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This fact made it all the more surprising when V1 Interactive announced Disintegration, a new shooter IP expected for release sometime in 2020. With V1 consisting of former Halo developers, many have wondered how much of an influence that classic franchise might have on Disintegration. Now, the Disintegration devs have spoken about how much of a connection they intend to have.

Disintegration Devs Aiming For An Experience Akin To Halo And Bungie

As reported on DualShockers, V1 environment artist Blake Low revealed the details in a recent interview at PAX East this past weekend. According to Low, V1 is seeking to make the game embody a unique combination of the first-person shooter and real-time strategy gameplay genres to create something wholly new. As Disintegration is being directed by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto, and Low provides the following insight into how much this connection to the hit franchise will come into play:

“You can’t play this game and not feel that familiar smooth first-person shooter that Halo and Bungie did so well; it’s a testament to having design be first,” Low said. Additionally. he likened the studio’s efforts in creating “a smooth, fun gameplay experience, and that’s something that Bungie always has done well.”

That said, V1 does want the game to stand alone as its own franchise, not just apart from Halo, but from the crowded greater first-person shooter genre in general. As Low states, “we have this world we built, we have this story we’re telling, but gameplay is king and that’s important in this studio.” Between the game’s open beta releasing earlier this month, and a demo becoming available this past weekend at PAX East, many are certainly agreeing this is a brand new style of genre-bending game. Only time will tell if it can master the legacy of Master Chief.
