DICE Acknowledges Battlefront Flaws, Promises Depth in Sequel (VIDEO)
One of the key themes that EA has focused on with their various releases of details and glimpses of their upcoming second Star Wars Battlefront game has been their desire to address the concerns and requests that players of the original game wanted to see improved upon in the sequel. The most significant addition missing from the first game that has been confirmed for Battlefront II has been the new single player story campaign mode. Still, even if the original game had a single player mode, some might still say original Battlefront flaws including lack of variety and enough reasons to keep playing. It appears that the developers have listened to these criticisms as they are now promising more depth for Battlefront II.
A new roundtable interview with members of the DICE with Criterion and Motive teams has been uploaded to the PlayStation YouTube channel, in which they speak about their development processes and goals for the new game. One of the topics discusses involved the criticism from players of the original DICE Battlefront game that said they want more breadth of gameplay in the sequel. In the video seen above, DICE producer Craig McLeod openly states his beliefs about the original DICE Battlefront’s depth, saying:
A lot of people found that with the original Battlefront, after a few months of play, they lacked the long-term goals. So these are the things that we are really trying to make sure we nail in this new game.”
The developers seem to point to the variety of new features in Battlefront II as the answers to these fan demands for depth. They hope that the prequel additions, space battles and soldier classes attract new players, and that the single player campaign and new progression system keep players engaged months after the initial launch of the game. Do you agree that the one of original Battlefront flaws was the idea that it lacked depth? What would you like to see added to the new game? Let us know in the comments below!
