Marvel’s Final Defenders Trailer Prepares Us For “The War For New York” (VIDEO)

Marvel's Final Defenders Trailer

Marvel’s The Defenders series is almost upon us, arriving to Netflix in its entirety later this week on August 18. Netflix’s latest Marvel series will unite the four heroes of previous shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. In Marvel’s final Defenders trailer, fans are given a better look at some of the character interactions to come in the series, as well as more screen time from the villain of the series, played by Sigourney Weaver. The Defenders stars Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Iron Fist). Up until now, these characters have had little to no interaction with each other with the exception of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage and a few recurring side characters, namely Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson). In a recent interview with the Independent, Charlie Cox discussed the dynamic of the team, and his role within it:

These were four people with equally strong opinions who are forced together against their will to work together. Whether one person emerges as a leader from that group is yet to be seen. It was more interesting that it was an ensemble, and it was about each of them recognizing what the others bring to the table and the group.”

If one thing is certain, it is that Marvel’s The Defenders is setting the stage for future series crossovers between several of these characters. Though it has previously been reported that the scope of this superhero team-up is considered a one-off, The Defenders is laying the groundwork for each character having a heavier presence in each other’s series, not unlike Luke Cage’s presence in season one of Jessica Jones. This is especially true with any future team-ups between Luke Cage and Finn Jones, given their thoroughly explored relationship within the comics.

In related news, it has been revealed that season 2 of Jessica Jones will see the return of its season 1 villain, Kilgrave. Played by David Tennant (Doctor Who), Kilgrave tormented Jessica Jones throughout the entire first season of the show. Taking into consideration how the first season concluded, it will be interesting to see how Tennant’s character is brought back unless he is utilized within flashbacks and memories.
