Diablo 4 Announcement Scrapped Ahead Of BlizzCon 2018

Diablo 4 Announcement

The past weekend at BlizzCon 2018 proved to be something of a roller coaster of emotions for fans. The convention provided many welcomed announcements for Blizzard’s biggest titles, including a new hero for Overwatch and a remake of a classic Warcraft game. However, not all announcements were met warmly, as the studio’s announcement of the Diablo Immortal mobile game was met with immediate hostility. Most acknowledged that these negative responses are due to the lack of updates on a core game. Now, sources are saying that a Diablo 4 announcement was planned for Blizzcon 2018, and was cancelled not long before the event.

Kotaku reported information that they were given by sources close to Blizzard. It seems that Blizzard’s original plans for BlizzCon involved premiering a Diablo 4 announcement video. The clip was to feature company co-founder Allen Adham confirming that the next entry was in the works, but that the game was not far enough in development to show gameplay or cinematic footage. This video would have come at the end of the now infamous Immortal trailer, not unlike the Elder Scrolls VI announcement that came after the Elder Scrolls mobile game trailer at E3 this year.

One of Kotaku’s mystery sources claimed that the announcement was scrapped at the last minute due to a lack of confidence by Blizzard in the game being ready for an announcement. Diablo 4 has supposedly been in development for four years already, and according to the source, has changed much throughout that time and could easily change again. While this may be a disappointment to some, given the lack of actual footage that would be shown, one can understand Blizzard’s desire to keep the game more under wraps until it is more ready to be proudly brandished.

Hopefully, Heaven’s Light will shine down with an official Diablo 4 announcement sooner rather than later. Would you have wanted the announcement at Blizzcon 2018? Let us know in the comments below!
