DFTG’s Reaction to the Big Reveal (Finally!) of BioWare’s Mass Effect: Andromeda (Opinion)

It is finally here! The official trailer to give fans insight into the next stage of galaxy exploration, Mass Effect: Andromeda. As a lot of you know, I am a HUGE BioWare fan – from their older titles, to their Dragon Age and Mass Effect series. I am 100% serious when I say that N7 (November 7th, named after the N7 Spec Ops represented in-game) is my favourite holiday. Needless to say, when the clock struck midnight marking this special date, I dutifully hauled my tired ass to my computer and waited diligently. With all of the teasers, sneak peeks, and developers having a good old time making us beg, we FINALLY have the reveal we’ve been waiting for. Is it Spring 2017 yet?

Our first impression was ‘Holy hell, this is beautiful! And haunting!’ The tone set for the new series is a fight for survival. You are … the Pathfinder and in your quest for finding a place for humanity in a new world, the Ryder siblings and Co. find that they are the aliens and the reception? Not that great. New races, familiar races, and a new daunting Big Bad, everything about this screamed success. I don’t mean to jump the calibrated gun (see what I did there?) here, but seeing the interaction with the squad, spotting races like the Salarians and the Asari – it feels like Home. It may not be Shepard but BioWare knows how to weave an intricate story alongside a powerful protagonist and they’ve worked tirelessly to make sure this new title was up to fan scrutiny.

“We’ve slept for hundreds of years. Dreaming of a new home. But when we finally awoke, our dreams of peace were shattered.”

Seeing the Hyperion (where the humans awoke), the Tempest, and the new armor sets had the whole team squee-ing for joy over here at DFTG. Looking at the Ryder siblings up close and personal made us fall in love instantly. And that N7 armor feature towards the end? Yeah, that’s the Ryder Papa and seeing that familiar armor once more was the perfect addition to this epic and size-able trailer (as seen below).

I don’t know about you guys, but this was everything I was hoping for! I do hope to see a little more female Turian representation (because come on, Nyreen was amazing!) and more Krogans! Scanning the screen for all of the possible faces, the LI (love interest) speculation was high. New loyalty missions, new stories, new everything. Mass Effect Andromeda is set for a Spring 2017 release and we will keep you updated every step of the way! Need a little more backstory? Check out our full trailer release news piece here. And if you were looking for backwards compatibility? Mass Effect 2 and 3 were just added to that for the Xbox One!
