It took some Pokemon fans a little warming up to do, but one of the most highly anticipated live-action films hits theaters this Summer. Premiering Detective Pikachu in May, Ryan Reynolds will star as none other than the cult favorite Pikachu. To build up the expectations, said actor releases an adorable new trailer, featuring auditions of various pocket monsters showing off their captivating flairs. Suffice to say, hilarity ensues. Other familiar faces include the classic Venusaur, a ferocious Aipom, Eevee, Charizard, and several others. Of course, who can forget the star of the show? Donning his weathered newsboy cap, the sprightly detective Pikachu gets his few seconds in front of the camera as well.

In previous trailer reveals, fans get a glimpse of the awesome Gyarados and a ridiculously creepy looking Lickitung. Despite its impending premiere, Detective Pikachu already has a sequel in development with Mortal Kombat and Sonic writer Oren Uziel. If that’s not enough, there’s even a spin-off rumored for production as well. Despite some equal levels of apprehension and excitement from the Pokemon community, it looks like there’s enough wave in news following films have been greenlit!
