A new announcement from Bungie has revealed new measures to crack down on cheaters in Destiny 2. Beginning September 4th, Destiny 2 will enact restrictions and bans on player accounts that have benefited from abnormally frequent disconnects in Season 3. This is said to include those disconnects where players voluntarily jumped ship when consistently matched with the same opponents.

Bungie’s improved cheater system owes its thanks to an update in the analysis and detection tools that have been looking at match data over the last few months. According to the update the level of severity for cheating in Destiny 2 could mean restrictions from Crucible, or an all out ban. Players may find themselves removed from accessing pinnacle Crucible rewards both present and future. It is also possible that players could be removed from all game activities.

Bungie has noted that more improvements to Destiny 2 will continue to roll out to help combat cheating and offer a better overall experience as Season 4 rolls out. There is some concern that some players may be penalized for simply having poor connections, or due to server issues. It is likely that Bungie has already considered this as they’ve sifted through the data but time will tell for sure.

These new features have arrived right as the third expansion, Forsaken. The expansion is preparing to be released for Year 2 on September 4th, meaning fans can expect a somewhat different experience starting soon. Players can get their hands on Destiny 2 for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.
