Destiny 2 Cross-Play Beta Officially Lands Next Week

Destiny 2 Cross-Play crossplay

Following the feature’s accidental enabling last week, appears Destiny 2 players may soon be able to squad-up across multiple platforms in an official capacity. Revealed as part of the latest ‘This Week At Bungie’ blog post, the first plans for formally rolling out cross-play functionality in Destiny 2 were announced, with a pre-release beta test scheduled to take place next week.

Spanning from May 25th to May 27th, Destiny 2 cross-play is set to be enabled for all players, though, only for a singular Vanguard Strikes playlist. The limited test is said to be aimed at integrating all supported platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Stadia) as Bungie crunches the data for the feature’s final release next season. “As you fight through the enemy waves of Darkness, our teams will be scouring data and preforming a multitude of actions to test the integrity of our upcoming Cross Play system,” Bungie wrote in the post.

“Many thanks in advance. We’re incredibly excited for Cross Play and the bright future this feature will bring by uniting Guardians from around the world, no matter which platform they play on.”

Additionally, Bungie noted that player invites won’t be available for this particular beta, with the devs only focusing on matchmaking while the test is live. While this open beta may not be as “open” as some may have wanted (or have experienced last week), the team is offering participants a neat incentive in the form of the “Stars Crossed” emblem, which is reserved for those who complete three strikes in the Vanguard Strikes cross-play beta playlist.
