Demon’s Souls Online Services Receive New Lease On Life

Demon's Souls Online Services

Late last year, Atlus revealed that it would be shutting down the Demon’s Souls online servers after almost nine long years of activity. Last week the final nail in the coffin was hammered in, and the game received its iconic ‘You Died’ death screen, though this time it was for itself. Thankfully in the Souls’ games death isn’t necessarily the end, so too with Demon’s Souls online services; the game’s dedicated community is hard at work bringing online features back to the game, and a private server is now up and running!

The resurrection of Demon’s Souls online servers has in part taken place over on this Reddit thread, where different users have been contributing to the “Digital Necromancy” efforts at peeling away the layers of the coffin in which the game’s online services reside. The private servers are currently working on North American and European copies of the game, though as with the game’s official servers, crossplay is not available between regions.

As seen above, the login screen for the private server also includes a current player count broken down by areas, which is a nice touch. The source code has been released for those looking to set up their own private servers, and according to the Reddit thread other developers are already hopping on the bandwagon, so pretty soon there will be no shortage of private servers for Demon’s Souls fans to join. Demon’s Souls is now available for PlayStation 3.

So, thoughts on the timely resurrection of the Demon’s Souls online services? Plan on trying out the test server for yourself?
