Death Stranding and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Share Incredible Themes, According to Kojima
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has been an absolute hit since it released in theaters, and with it taking home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, the team is likely sitting high on a magnificent cloud of success. No stranger to success, and a movie buff for the ages, Hideo Kojima recently praised the film and even says that it shares some of the incredible themes that Death Stranding has.
Now, even after all of the trailers and little tidbits that the development team have been so kind to disclose, it’s difficult to pinpoint what Death Stranding is truly about. We know it’s going to be about bringing people together, there will be interesting battery-like babies, and the peculiar black goo that transforms into creatures. However, according to Kojima, the themes seen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will possibly be seen in Death Stranding.
Spider- Man: Into the Spider-Verse was great masterpiece! Live action, full CGI, Japanimation, puppet anime, tokusatsu, manga, American comic, graffiti, it carries all the DNA and MEME SCENE, SENSE to make the next gen entertainment art. Good story too! The theme is like TPP+DS? pic.twitter.com/dYTKH1SkPM

As can be seen in the tweet above, Kojima has nothing but praise for the animated film, and says that the theme is similar to “TPP+DS.” TPP likely refers to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, while DS probably refers to Death Stranding.
“DNA, MEME, SCENE, SENSE” all likely refer to the previous installments in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, as they are the overall themes presented in the games. One user on Reddit theorized that the theme Kojima is referring to that could be applied to The Phantom Pain and Death Stranding is “the new hero (you) taking up the mantle/responsibilities of a hero that died or ‘left’.”
However, this could also mean that we’ll be seeing a multiverse in the upcoming title. Maybe we’ll even see Snake roaming around with Norman Reedus’ Sam Porter. Probably not, but you get the idea. One hell of a ride is to come in Death Stranding.
No release date has been set for the upcoming game, but it is currently in development for PlayStation 4. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
