Cyberpunk 2077 Lets You Kill Most People, Just Not Kids Or Story NPCs
It’s been just a month since CD Projekt Red made their big presentation at E3 for Cyberpunk 2077, but excitement over the game has yet to die down. With the premiere of the new story and gameplay trailers at the event, CD Projekt Red has been gifting their fans with oodles of new information about the game. In the past month, CD Projekt Red has given more details about the game’s multiple endings, romance options, weapon skill progressions systems and more. Now, the developer has given new details about NPCs, confirming that Cyberpunk 2077 kids and important plot NPCs cannot be fought or killed by the player.
One curious Redditor proposed the query about which NPCs can be killed by the player, and was lucky enough to receive a direct response from CD Projekt Red. According to the message, CD Projekt Red intends to let the player be able to get into potentially lethal quarrels with just about any NPC in the game, but this will not be possible with children or NPCs that are responsible for progressing the plot forward. Gamers will likely know that these exceptions were made quite well famous in Skyrim, so it makes sense for violence against children to not be depicted here and for the story CD Projekt Red wants to tell to not be cut short by the player.
CD Projekt Red confirmed that this screenshot is indeed real and verified the immune kids and plot NPCs in a separate email to PCGamer. In that email, they also confirmed that killing certain NPCs, such as police or gang members, will have consequences that land the player in hot water with their factions. Some people may be upset with CD Projekt Red’s choices, but this does seem like a fairly balanced system to let the player get into as much trouble as they like, which is quite often a recurring element of the cyberpunk genre. And eventually, some modder will likely find a way to make kids and story npcs targetable as well, so there’s always that.
