Casual Free-Roam Mode Announced Today for Firewatch

Strap on your hiking boots and get ready for an unexpected journey back into Shoshone! In a blog post by Campo Santo, it was announced today that a “Free-Roam” mode has been added to Firewatch and is live for PS4 and PC!

Free-Roam

Xbox One users may already be familiar with the mode, but for those of you who have yet to experience it here is what you can expect from the patch.

Free-Roam opens the world of Firewatch, allowing players to explore objective free with a 24 hour day cycle that will give you the opportunity to experience the world in a more real time setting. In order to unlock this mode players must first finish the story, a pretty good incentive, and then the mode appears in the “Special Features” section in the main menu.

The patch for PC also solves the problem players had with the Xbox One controller losing functionality of the D-pad in Windows 10.

Campo’s blog also details a breakdown of the latest PS Pro features, which includes a more enhanced detail distance, smoother loads, and better quality shadows for players with 1080p display, while Pro players with a 4K display can expect renders at WQHD (2560x1440p) and UI renders at 4KUHD (3840×2160).

This news comes almost a month after they announced that you could explore Henry’s lookout tower in VR through Steam Destinations. Now you can step beyond the tower and out into the world without restriction!
