Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 5 Patch Reduces Overall File Size
The download size for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone is massive and seems to only grow as time goes on. At the moment players are looking at a total of around 200 GB needed to play the title across all platforms, though it seems that size will shrink a bit thanks to an upcoming patch. While the latest Season 5 update is quite large in its own right, it will actually reduce the overall file size of the game.
The Season 5 update patch looks to be 36 GB but will require 90 GB of space to start the download. Thankfully, after the download the overall size of the game will be smaller than it was previously. Paul Haile explains in a recent series of Tweets that the team is really starting to optimize the game’s asset packs and that Activision is committed to reducing the amount of space Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone take up on players’ hard drives.
this means the download will be big, but the overall size of the game will actually shrink on your consoles after you download the patch, even though we’re adding a bunch of new content for the season.

A new post from Activision explains that the update will be able to be pre-loaded in two separate groups before the game goes live on the PlayStation platform. Unfortunately for everybody else, players will have to wait until August 5th when the update actually goes live.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone are currently available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
