Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Reportedly Won’t Have Traditional Single-Player
Call of Duty titles have had some form of single-player story which served to further the story of the franchise. However according to unnamed sources in a recent report, Activision and Treyarch are foregoing the Black Ops 4 single-player campaign in favor of focusing on the game’s multiplayer and co-op instead.
The report indicated that as the release date for the title draws near, it had become evident to developers that the development of the Black Ops 4 single-player campaign wouldn’t be completed in time. One of the unnamed sources claims that Treyarch has since decided to abandon the campaign for now and switched their focus on the game’s online features such as the popular Zombies mode and multiplayer. The source also indicated that there may be an emphasis on cooperative modes as a stand-in for the lack of a traditional single-player campaign.
When asked whether or not the information given by these sources was valid, an Activision spokesperson at explained that the company would not comment on rumors or speculation. That being said, new information will be available when the title is officially revealed on May 17th of this year. If true, the lack of campaign will be a first for the main franchise and indicates a new creative direction for the series. This lines up with the tagline for the title stating “Forget what you know.” which works well with the mind manipulation theme surrounding the Black Ops series as well as the coming changes.
Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is set to release October 12th of this year for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
