With the new generation of gaming consoles, there has been a variety of new game experiences that celebrate the new hardware. One such new title has been Bugsnax, which was made available at the launch of the PlayStation 5. While the game was a fairly short experience at launch, developer Young Horses promised more content for the game would eventually land. They certainly proved their promise with the reveal of a significant update for the game last year, which introduces giant-sized creatures to the game. The developer has been teasing the new BIGsnax DLC for a while and has now offered insight into the inspiration for the DLC.

GamesRadar recently reported on the latest interview with Bugsnax developer Young Horses members for the newest issue of Play Magazine. The big topic of concern is of course the upcoming BIGsnax DLC coming soon for the main game. This DLC has promised a new island location that features giant new iterations of the game’s food-based Bugsnax creatures. As for what inspired this DLC’s core new idea, creative director Kevin Zuhn had this to say about the DLC’s surprising source:

“We wanted to have a kind of identifiable new mechanic – something that would really set this area apart from the others and something that would make these particular Bugnsax a little bit trickier to catch than the others. There was also then, of course, the idea of doing like The Lost World: Jurassic Park, right? Where we’re like ‘oh, a mysterious new island- and now they’re huge.”

Zahn also states that the team received a lot of praise from players for the boss battles in the game, such as the Mothza Supreme. As such, this  necessitated an idea that would include more boss-like encounters to happen more frequently. There is no release date yet for the BIGsnax DLC, but it has been promised for an early release this year, which should hopefully occur soon. We all have a big appetite for BIG Cheesers and Charmellows.
