Borderlands Film To Begin Filming In Budapest Soon

Borderlands Film

As the film industry seems to be returning to its large-scale productions, it also seems clear that Hollywood’s intent to adapt more video game franchises for television and film is still on. The Mortal Kombat live-action movie reboot is set to premiere on HBO Max and theaters later this April, and two separate Resident Evil projects at Netflix are in the works. A live-action Borderlands movie has also been in the pre-production stages the past year under Lionsgate, with Cate Blanchette officially set to star as Lilith. Now, it appears that the Borderlands film is set to begin filming soon in Budapest.

The Hollywood Reporter has recently reported on the film industry’s recent and upcoming fixation on filming in Hungary, especially now in the post-pandemic world. At the center of Hungary’s booming film production industry is MidAtlantic Films, the nation’s leading production services provider. In regards to the company’s upcoming production schedule in 2021, here is what MidAtlantic Films head Adam Goodman had to say:

We[‘ve] opened up space for a Lionsgate film, Borderlands [starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart], we’re doing season three of Jack Ryan for Paramount TV, and we’re doing a Marvel project, which, for the usual security reasons, I can’t talk about. We’re basically fully booked for the coming cycle, until the summer, which, hopefully, will be the last cycle of shows we have to do under COVID-19 protocols.”

The Borderlands film is set to be directed by Eli Roth, and will star Cate Blanchette and Kevin Hart (though Hart has not officially signed on yet). No other casting decisions have been announced yet, but if production is set to begin this soon in the future, those choices may have already been made with announcements coming soon. Borderlands fans are surely excited to see their beloved franchise come to life in live-action, and hopefully it’ll be safe to see that on the big screen when its release arrives. That is if our world doesn’t turn into the wild Borderlands before then.
