Borderlands 3 Reveals DLC Roadmap, “Outlaws And Dinosaurs” Teased

Since getting launched last year, Borderlands 3 has managed to keep content coming through regular updates and the release of full-scale add-ons to the main campaign’s story. With a festive new story DLC now on the horizon, Gearbox Software has now shared a rough roadmap of content expected to arrive over the next few months.

As detailed on the official Borderlands blog, a number of big updates have been slated to take place from March to as far as May, beginning with next month’s paid Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC. Coming up in April is Mayhem Mode 2.0, a touted “free overhaul of Borderlands 3’s endgame” that will allow Vault Hunters to change their Mayhem level through their ECHO device, rather than having to make the trek back to Sanctuary III. The update is also teased to introduce “some surprising new modifiers,” but specifics won’t be revealed until a later date.

April will also kick off the ‘Revenge of the Cartels’ seasonal event, where players will be tasked with protecting super-intelligent Saurian character Maurice against the likes of some vengeful space-thugs. “You’ll have to eliminate key operatives stationed around the galaxy so Maurice can open a portal to a new hideout area where the Cartel has set up shop,” the blog post reveals. “The enemies you’ll encounter on the other side of the portal will change based on which division of the Cartel you’re up against.”

Entering May, fans will have yet another update awaiting them in the form of new Takedown content – the second following Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite back in November. The event is teased as being themed around “the Guardians,” a group of “mysterious figures” with ties to the series’ ancient and advanced race of Eridians. As there’s still a few months until this intriguing premise becomes a reality, more about this particular update is teased to arrive sometime around then, with “lots more mayhem in store for the latter half of 2020.”

One of these future mayhem-inducing updates managed to slip into Gearbox’s big reveal, the studio divulging a little hint regarding their planned third campaign DLC. Arriving sometime in Summer, the team teased a new adventure that somehow involves “outlaws and dinosaurs,” showing off a stunning piece of concept art for the forthcoming content. With this small “taste of what’s in store,” the developer assured that “things are coming along nicely” for the yet-unnamed third and fourth campaign add-ons for Borderlands 3, and will be shown in-full “at a later date.”
