Borderlands 3 Gets A Beloved Apex Legends Feature

With the release date for Borderlands 3 rapidly approaching, Gearbox Software has begun to tease all the exciting new features fans will be able to get their hands on once the title ships later this year. One such feature, though, isn’t entirely ‘new’ and is instead something that was inspired by battle royale title Apex Legends. Yes, we’re talking about the ping system.

The ping system made quite the dramatic comeback recently with the release of Apex Legends, which took the battle royale genre by storm before the genre as a whole feel a bit to the wayside. The important thing is that Borderlands 3 is officially implementing a ping system, one that was on full display during Guardian Con at the Borderlands 3 panel. The below video was shown at the panel:

According to Gearbox, the ping system is “particularly useful if you play cooperatively without a mic” as it “lets you quickly and effectively communicate the positions of enemies, loot chests, guns, and other points of interest by highlighting them both in-world and on the minimap.” The video itself is brief, though it does show off how the ping system works on a basic level. With the player playing as Amara, the demo shows them pinging enemies, loot crates, ammo boxes, and even environmental objects, which makes it just diverse enough that players should have no problem coming up with clever uses for it.

Borderlands 3 launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 13, 2019.
