New Trailer Spotlights Mass Effect Andromeda’s Krogan Squadmate – Meet Drack (VIDEO)

Another day closer to the release of BioWare’s space RPG Mass Effect Andromeda, another day of titillating teasers. Earlier, we got an in-depth look at squad mate Jaal – the newest race to hit the series and a jack of all trades that wears his heart on his sleeve. Now the team behind the highly anticipated title are letting us say hello to a new member altogether – one of a slightly ‘rougher’ variety. Meet Drack, a Krogan who is an incredibly loyal squad mate that is much more than meets the eye.

The trailer highlights the many quirks and abilities that make this Krogan unique as Catherine Rootsaert, writer for BioWare, narrates the journey into looking beyond the small glimpses we’ve had of him thus far. Much like the original trilogy‘s Wrex, Drack has a tough exterior – but that doesn’t mean that’s all this character has to offer. From what Rootsaert has shown us, this old guy definitely has a soft spot for the Ryder siblings as well as those he calls his friends.

Our squad mate Nakmor Drack is probably one of the most hardcore of our squadmates. He is in fact the oldest Krogan we have met in the Mass Effect universe. Drack may come off as an old curmudgeon, but he is lovable in that curmudgeon way, especially to the Pathfinder.”

Instead of taking off with the rest of his kind, he stays behind with the Pathfinder group by the Nexus alongside his granddaughter Kesh. “Drack is certainly a lot of fun,” writer Rootsaert says and we can definitely see why with his flashy intro in the first scene of the video above. A character that is definitely comfortable in his own skin, that doesn’t necessarily mean the other squad mates are always comfortable with him.

Whether he is “mixing it up” with Liam or causing “misunderstandings” with Jaal, Drack certainly inspires a ferocity that also beds well with the familiar humor that we came to appreciate with a few Krogan in the franchise’s past (Grunt with his noodle obsession? Come on, hilarious). It is also adorable to note that the fondness that Catherine talks about in the video is prevalent near the end where Drack can be sen resting his head on Ryder’s shoulder during a crew night on the Tempest. From what we’ve seen, he will definitely be a notable fixture in the next phase for the Mass Effect series.
