Apex Legends Has an Adorable Overwatch Bastion Tribute

Free-to-play battle royale game Apex Legends has been a smash hit since its release earlier this week, recently hitting the 10 million players mark, as well as 1 million concurrent users. While many of these players have been doing their best trying to get a handle on the new game and vying for that ‘Champion’ win, one player has discovered that Apex Legends actually has a rather adorable tribute to Blizzard’s Overwatch.

The information comes by way of Redditor Arzamar, who posted the discovery just a couple days after the battle royale game launched. Despite it being about another game, the Redditor posted it on the Overwatch subreddit, where it was allowed to stay thanks to its popularity (and to prevent it from simply being reposted over and over). Check out the short gif below and see if you can make the connection:

Apex Legend’s Pathfinder has a hilarious Bastion reference from r/Overwatch

Did you figure it out? For those unaware, the Overwatch character Bastion is a robot who has a bird friend that shows up in many of the robot’s emotes and other animations. One such animation shows the bird flitting around before landing on Bastion’s finger. On the flipside of things, Apex Legends contains a character named Pathfinder, who is essentially a cross between Alan Tudyk and Legion from Mass Effect. So, well played to Respawn Entertainment on that. One of the unlockable poses for Pathfinder shows a bird flying towards the robot before engaging him in an act of all-out war, swooping in to peck at him before flying at his head from behind. It’s a simple tribute, but a hilarious one nonetheless.

It’ll be interesting to see if there are any other tributes to be found as players continue to drop more hours into the game. Apex Legends is now available free-to-play for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
