Anthem The "Most Emotional Shooter" Of The Decade, Says Director

These past few days have seen fans enjoying the long-anticipated VIP demo for BioWare’s Anthem, with our own Editor Eric Garrett giving his overall impressions, which can be read right here. While there has been plenty to talk about and mull over in regards to the demo, Anthem director Jonathan Warner had his own things to say about the game as a whole, referring to the title as the “most emotional shooter” of the decade.

The bold statement comes by way of a recent interview with EDGE Magazine as reported by Wccftech, wherein Warner discusses his thoughts on the upcoming RPG Shooter. Speaking with EDGE, Warner states that the developer might have “the most emotional shooter” of the decade. ” “Games you don’t connect with emotionally are not games that you end up talking about years later.” he said.

To me, that is the delight of making games, because I know that somewhere some young person is going to pick up Anthem and play it, and it is going to be that game for them. It’ll be their game. That’s such an amazing privilege.”

Again, this is a pretty tall order to suggest that Anthem may take the unofficial award for most emotional shooter, but if BioWare excels at anything, it’s bringing the feels and the big emotional payout. “It can sound so pretentious to say, ‘We really want you to emotionally connect to this game.’ I do, but I want it to connect to lots of different people emotionally in different ways – whether it’s a touching story, or a character that you particularly love, or an adventure that you tell your friends about, or whether it’s just that adrenaline rush. It’s all emotional.”

Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait long to see for themselves just how emotional of a shooter the game can be, as Anthem launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 22nd.
