Anthem Details Unveiled By BioWare’s Mark Darrah – Javelins, Customization, And More
The talk among BioWare fans has primarily been about Anthem, the developer’s next big action RPG. Of course, there will always be rumblings about Mass Effect and Dragon Age, but the focus is currently on the upcoming title. With additional footage being shown during E3 2018, including glorious gameplay, players are beginning to want to know more.
Thankfully, that is when BioWare’s Mark Darrah comes in. The Anthem executive producer has been over on Twitter, answering question after question about the game. Will lore play a role in the title? How far can we go with customization? What about those fancy Javelins? Honestly, we could sit here all day pumping out the queries, but the lovely fans over on Twitter have already put in some legwork. When asked about which Javelin players will have to start, Darrah responded:
You start with the Ranger.
The others are earned in the story https://t.co/MbWPT3zwHg— Mark Darrah (@BioMarkDarrah) June 12, 2018
It appears that BioWare is making players start off with Ranger because it’s the easier of the classes to learn Anthem with. Obtaining the other three Javelins will happen fairly quickly through completing story missions, he said. Which one you unlock will be determined by the mission you do, so there is no predetermined order.
Character creation was brought up, with Darrah stating that while players will be able to fine-tune their characters, Javelin personalization will have a heavier focus placed on it. Unfortunately, BioWare isn’t discussing an specifics about cosmetics at this time. Moving forward, players will not be rolling around Fort Tarsis in their Javelin suits because “that would be rude.”
Free play is relatively undirected.
Missions will move through the open world with more specific goals.
