True Blood’s Joe Manganiello Wrote For Dungeons & Dragons Adventure
The tabletop glory of Dungeons & Dragons has seen a welcome resurgence of popularity in recent times as evidenced by its prominence in the Netflix series Stranger Things and crossovers with other popular franchises. The role-playing fun has been enjoyed by players for decades, ever since its first incarnation in 1974. One such lifelong fan can be found in True Blood actor Joe Manganiello, who currently finds himself as a contributor and unofficial celebrity face of Dungeons & Dragons.
In an NBC News editorial written by Manganiello, the actor revealed that he’s been officially hired by D&D themselves in a consulting role, a job that he wrote was his dream as a child. One of the upcoming projects he’s had a creative hand in is a new adventure module that will be available sometime in 2019. Not much else was revealed about his writing contribution, but we should hear more as the release gets closer.
“I now work as a consultant for Dungeons & Dragons, which is the job that I wanted as a kid, and, as a result of that relationship, I wrote some material for their adventure module that will get released next year.”
Joe Manganiello also went into the popularity of D&D in the Hollywood space, as many of his famous acting and directing friends also share in his love of the game. Rampage director Brad Peyton is one of these big names, and as Manganiello wrote, the two’s mutual fandom is what scored him a role in Peyton’s recent monster blockbuster.
“I had written a script for a Dungeons & Dragons movie when the rights were at Warner Brothers, where Brad Peyton was looking to direct another version of a movie about the game. We got on the phone to exchange notes about our separate versions, and got to talking about how much we loved the game. Then Brad mentioned that he was looking to cast a part in this other movie, and said I should consider it. “
While neither version of their respective movies are no longer in production, Manganiello voiced his confidence in an eventual big screen adaptation, using outstanding properties like Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones as examples that push the industry in the right direction. The most recent news regarding a movie sees Nightwing director Chris McKay attached to helm the fantasy project with a release planned for 2021.
