Pokemon GO’s Mewtwo EX Raids Exclusively at Starbucks

Mewtwo EX Raids

Ready or not, it looks like legendary Pokemon Mewtwo is headed to a Starbucks near you!  Having previously announced the Pokemon GO EX raid battle system last month, developer Niantic is officially sending out invitations for the upcoming Mewtwo EX raids, which will be taking place exclusively at Starbucks-sponsored locations within the United States.  Additionally, Niantic is also sending out invites to Europe and Asia as the EX raid battle system testing begins to gain more traction.  Europe will be hosting the Mewtwo EX raids at participating Starbucks and Unibail-Rodamco mall locations, while Asia is hosting the raids at Jio locations.  According to Pokemon Go Hub, players will have to have beat a nearby Gym within the past few weeks in order to be eligible to receive an invite.

EX raid battles are unique in nature compared to the other types of battles found within Pokemon Go.  The invitation-only Gym battles pit players against legendary Pokemon, such as Mewtwo and others that will be announced further into the feature’s testing phase.  Players that take part in the Mewtwo EX raids have a chance to catch the legendary Pokemon, while also being rewarded with Raid Eggs that can potentially hatch into Mewtwo, or other powerful Pokemon.  Players can also win additional rewards, such as Rare Candy, Golden Razz Berries, Charged TMs, and Fast TMs.

Mewtwo is the first Pokemon that Trainers will be able to face in Exclusive Raid Battles, but other powerful Pokemon may also start to hatch from the Raid Eggs found at Exclusive Raid Battles over the next several weeks.”

While the upcoming Mewtwo EX Raids are limited exclusively to certain sponsored locations, the expectation is that non-sponsored Gyms and PokeStops will be eligible to host EX Raids further down the line, though there currently isn’t a timetable for this.  unfortunately, this means that depending on where Trainers live, they may have to wait a while before getting in on the fun, unless they do some traveling.  Australia is also currently out of the loop for this current wave of EX Raid testing, though as the testing continues, chances are its availability will improve.
