Marvel Animation VP Comments on Possible Captain Marvel TV Show
Marvel Animation has brought to life several animated shows in recent years, based in-part on Marvel Studios latest movie offerings. 2013 saw the launch of an animation following Earth’s Mightiest Heroes called Avengers Assemble, and the following year debuted another series based on Guardians of the Galaxy. Both cartoons are still going strong to this day, with a new Spider-Man series coming next month to capitalize on the web-head’s recent film success. These established animated adventures have put forward the question of a possible Captain Marvel TV show down the line, as the powerful heroine is making her film debut in 2019. According to a Marvel Animation VP, it’s definitely not out of the cards.
“I can’t answer that question, but it is a possibility,” said Marvel Animation’s senior vice president, Cort Lane.
Lane, who regretfully couldn’t divulge too much about future plans, went on to speak about how the animation company values its considerable female audience. He then revealed that young girls responded very well in focus groups for both Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming Spider-Man animation, adding that there are “great opportunities” in that untried market.
“We know that a large portion of our live-action film audience is female. We know that girls in particular really enjoy the new Spider-Man show in testing, higher than anything we’ve ever done, but we also know we can do more,” Lane said. “We are committed to doing something specifically for the girl audience.”
It could be inferred by Lane’s comments that a Captain Marvel TV show is currently in development in some degree, even if it’s just scribbly concept art. If it’s true that Carol Danvers is indeed headed to the small screen, the lack of any Marvel confirmation means we could waiting quite a while for an official announcement. It’s not as though they don’t have a large time window to work with, as Marvel Studios’ live-action Captain Marvel is set for release on March 8, 2019.
