Resident Evil 4 Remake Finally Revealed, Coming March 2023 (VIDEO)

Resident Evil Remake

After multiple years of speculation, the Resident Evil 4 remake is now officially real, as announced at the top of Sony’s newest State of Play presentation. The stunning unveiling began with the display of a mysterious date, March 24th, 2023, followed by confirmation of Capcom’s long-brewing RE4 remake. The remaining duration is a quick montage of scenes captured on PS5, teasing a beautiful recreation of the original 2005 game and following up the events of Capcom’s recent Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes.

Capcom divulged a bit more about the Resident Evil 4 remake on the PlayStation Blog, confirming plans to craft a “state-of-the-art” survival horror experience while also “preserving the essence of the original game.” As with the RE2 and RE3 remakes before it, the new RE4 aims to ‘keep the essence’ of the familiar story, but ‘reimagine’ it to suit a modern audience, including upgrades to graphics and controls to bring both aspects into a “modern standard.”

The road from rumor to reveal has been a long one for the Resident Evil 4 remake, with initial speculation going as far back as 2020. While Capcom never confirmed anything officially, evidence has only continued to mount in the time since with repeated internal leaks and reports keeping the nightmare alive. One report went as far as to suggest the remake might even be scarier and introduce a greater depth of content when compared to the original.

While the Resident Evil 4 remake was never official until now, Capcom has done well to sow seeds for the game’s return in recent years. The original RE4, along with most of the classic series, was ported to Nintendo Switch in 2019, while an enhanced VR version of the game was brought to Oculus Quest 2 headsets late last year. On top of that, the series’ 8th main entry, Resident Evil Village, pays numerous homages to RE4, most notably with its overall ‘village’ aesthetic.

Resident Evil 4 Remake releases for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 24th, 2023.
