The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf animated film released on Netflix just months before the scheduled arrival of the mainline live-action series starring Henry Cavill. As one might imagine given the choice of protagonist, Vesemir, the two shows are at least somewhat connected, with Geralt of Rivia planning to take Ciri to Kaer Morhen for training, much in the same way Vesemir trained Geralt. To better punctuate this connection, The Witcher series showrunner has released a new clip connecting the ending of Nightmare of the Wolf to season 2 of the live-action series.

Netflix took to its ‘Geeked’ social media account to release a new video clip starring The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich. During the clip, Hissrich speaks about the benefits of using animated films as a more liberating medium, after which she reveals that Nightmare of the Wolf is connected to season 2 of The Witcher by way of Geralt, who was present for the events that transpired at the end of the animated film.

Lauren S. Hissrich goes on to reveal that the state of Kaer Morhen in season 2 is a direct result of the pitched battle that took place at the end of Nightmare of the Wolf, all the way down to the mix of human and monster bones strewn about the dilapidated fortress. Thankfully we needn’t wait too much longer to see it for ourselves, as The Witcher season 2 is slated to release on December 17, 2021.
