PS5 Cooling Fan Will Receive Optimization Updates Based On Player Data
The mighty cooling fan of the PS5 won’t be a static product once consoles start to ship out next month. While the fan itself has been confirmed to run silently even after extended use, Sony has committed to continuing to provide optimization updates to the PS5’s cooling system utilizing player data.
The news comes by way of a recent interview (via Resetera) with the PS5 mechanical design chief Yasuhiro Ootori, who confirmed that the fan will leverage optimization updates pulled from player data to improve performance over time. Those unfamiliar with the name Yasuhiro Ootori may instead recognize him from the now famous tech video wherein he physically breaks down the PS5.
During the interview, Ootori revealed that the PS5’s cooling fan is controlled by the console’s Accelerated Processing Unit, or APU, and leverages the AMD CPU/GPU chip for additional power. Given Sony’s commitment to keeping the console cool, it only makes sense that the company will seek to improve upon the cooling fan’s performance via optimization updates, which have the potential to show up even years after the console’s initial launch. It’ll be interesting to see just how much can possibly be improved via these updates, and whether or not there will be any concern given that it utilizes player data.
The PS5 is slated to release on November 12.
