Crackdown 2 Studio Acquired By Rockstar Games
The gaming industry has seen the rise of several big entities that hold a significant portion of the market, with one such titan being Take-Two Interactive. The publishing giant houses several massively successful gaming franchises and developers, two of the biggest being 2K Games and Rockstar Games. With big rumors about future Rockstar Games abounding, it would make sense that Take-Two would seek to add more studios for Rockstar to utilize. Such is the case now, as a developer behind a fan-favorite last-gen title is now in Take-Two’s sights. Rockstar Games has announced they will be adding Crackdown 2 studio Ruffian Games to their worldwide network of development locations.
Take-Two Interactive released a statement on their official website confirming Rockstar’s acquisition of the Crackdown 2 studio. Leaks arose elsewhere in the past week, indicating that Ruffian Games had legally changed its name to Rockstar Dundee, a reference to the studio’s location in Dundee, Scotland. Of the acquisition, Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser said:
“We are thrilled to have Ruffian join the Rockstar Games family. The Ruffian team are a talented addition to Rockstar’s global studios, and we look forward to working together on future projects.”
Though the name change and acquisition of the Crackdown 2 studio was only recently made official, Ruffian Games had actually been working on projects for Rockstar Games for the past year. While the identity of these mystery games has yet to be revealed, Ruffian Games has open positions available for engineers in the Dundee area to work on these projects. The prevailing theories lately have pointed towards Grand Theft Auto VI and Bully 2 being the most likely new games coming from Rockstar. Given Ruffian Games’ former name and logo, Bully 2 would certainly seem like a good fit. Whatever these games end up being, Ruffian Games have proven their prowess in the past and will definitely contribute some good value to the Rockstar empire.
