The Holidays may be over, but the spirit of giving carries on, especially if you’re a Space Ninja!  Digital Extremes Ltd., creators of the hit free to play Steam game Warframe, have just presented a $50,000 check to the Boys & Girls Club of London.  The money was raised due to the overwhelming success of Warframe’s in-game event, Tennobaum, which is only one of many charitable events DE has held throughout the years. Between December 14 and January 4, every gift given from one Tenno to another in Warframe resulted in increasingly more money being donated to charity, with their ultimate goal of 300,000 gifts given resulting in the $50,000 payout.  The milestones also unlocked in-game rewards for the Warframe community, regardless of whether or not they participated in the event.  The rewards included resource boosters, an exclusive Warframe accessory, and exclusive weapon skins.

The Boys & Girls Club of London is a non-profit, family recreation facility which features programs that help young people succeed in school, form positive relationships and mature into healthy, responsible and caring adults.  Their program services are planned to provide fun with a purpose where children and youth enjoy a safe place that promotes physical health, mental health and emotional well-being.  You can donate, volunteer, and learn more about the Boys & Girls Club of London here.

The gaming community can do wonderful things when they set their mind to it. The Warframe community wasn’t the only band of gamers to raise money for a good cause. Games Done Quick charity event also “gamed with a cause” raising over $2 Million for players’ charity of choice. We here at DFTG participate yearly in a 24 hour gaming marathon for Extra Life to raise money for children’s hospitals. Gamers doing great things – take that, media.
