Super Mario Maker 2 Adds Playable Link From The Legend of Zelda (VIDEO)
Super Mario Maker 2 has proven to be the sequel that keeps on giving, providing players with ample content from both Nintendo as well as legions of creative level-generating fans. If endless hours of playing/Mario-making weren’t enough, Big N is now preparing even more content for the game’s big Ver. 2.0.0 update, adding several new enemies, items, as well as a playable version of Link from The Legend of Zelda series!
Going live on December 5th, the dungeon-raiding, rupee-collecting, and pottery-smashing hero of Hyrule has been confirmed to be coming to Super Mario Maker 2. Introduced through a new ‘Master Sword’ item, lifting the legendary blade in-game will soon transform the Mushroom Kingdom’s Mario into The Legend of Zelda’s Link. Far from just a skin, this classic 8-bit version of Link packs much of the same arsenal featured in his classic NES-era game, including his trusty sword, bow and arrow, and a collection of droppable bombs.
Besides the Hero of Time’s introduction, other highlights of the update include the likes of a ball-chucking enemy named Spike and the high-stacking cactus foe, Pokey. Several new items also see their debut such as meltable Frozen Coins, timed P Blocks, and speed-boosting Dash Blocks reminiscent of the Mario Kart games. Additionally, a new mode dubbed ‘Ninji Speedruns’ will challenge players with special time-trial courses, with runs from fellow online racers depicted with cute little Ninji Ghosts. All these features can be seen in the video above.
Super Mario Maker 2 is available now for Nintendo Switch. The Ver. 2.0.0 update goes live on December 5th.
