The Witcher Series’ Yennefer Discusses The Differences Between The Show And The Books
Ever since the epic trailer reveal at SDCC, Netflix’s upcoming The Witcher series has quickly become one of those most highly anticipated shows of 2019. While the series’ showrunner has previously stated that the show will never pull from the games, that hasn’t stopped fans from wondering if the show will draw any parallels between the show, the games, and the original source material. Thankfully, it appears that one notable change has been made in order to shine a bigger spotlight on more characters than just Geralt of Rivia.
During a round-table interview at SDCC, it was mentioned that the video game series focuses almost entirely on Geralt, leaving little room for other characters. One participant asked Yennefer actress Anya Chalotra if the show would be more balanced in terms of screentime and sharing the spotlight Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, who is still being considered the star of the show. “Yes. I mean, it’s … so in the books, we meet Yennefer and Ciri through Geralt’s journey,” Chalotra said. “Whereas in this story, we all have our own story, our own path and yeah, we’re just as important as Geralt’s journey, adventures. And just destiny just brings us together.”
As mentioned, Netflix’s The Witcher series will still put a heavy focus on Cavill’s character, though it certainly won’t just be him running around for the entire run-time of the first season, with or without his two swords. Here’s hoping the show will live up to its expectations.
The Witcher series is expected to debut on Netflix at some point later this year.
