New Yooka-Laylee Rap Song Pays Tribute to Donkey Kong 64 (VIDEO)

Yooka- Laylee Rap

2017 is the year of nostalgia gaming. The Nintendo Switch recieved a new Zelda title with Breath of the Wild and a Crash Bandicoot remaster is in the works for this Summer on the PlayStation console. There’s one more title coming soon that, while very much a new game, will feel very similar to some games of the past. Yooka-Laylee is a buddy duo, open world, platformer made by the creative talent from Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country. A new video shows off a Yooka- Laylee rap intro that fans will immediately recognize as being similar to a title from the days of the Nintendo 64.

Yooka- Laylee Rap

The 1999 Nintendo 64 game Donkey Kong 64 featured a fun and silly rap intro. It was very lighthearted and introduced members of Kong Family appearing in the game including Diddy, Lanky, Tiny, and Chunky Kong. Yooka-Laylee is following suit with a similar rap song nearly 20 years later focusing on Yooka and Laylee. The age is even mentioned straight off the bat as the rap starts. Composed by former Rare composer Grant Kirkhope, the rap can be seen in this video which was revealed April 1st at EGX Rezzed.

The soundtrack for the game will also be composed by Grant Kirkhope of Banjo-Kazooie alongside David Wise of Donkey Kong Country. Yooka-Laylee will be arriving April 11th for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4. Initially the game was also slated for the Nintendo Switch, but was later cancelled, though there is some hope for a future release.
