Xbox Boss Praises The DualSense, Hints At Potential Controller Improvements

While the PlayStation 5 on its own is a pretty sweet package, one should not understate the technological marvel that is the DualSense controller. Countless outlets from all across the gaming industry have praised Sony for its next-gen peripheral, with even the likes of Xbox boss himself now joining in on the praise. Even further, Phil Spencer seems keen on potentially making some improvements to the Xbox controller based on what people like about the DualSense.

Speaking on the latest Kinda Funny Gamescast, Phil Spencer confirmed that major gaming peripherals such as VR headsets won’t be released by Microsoft in the near future, though an updated Xbox controller could be in the works. “When I think about our hardware roadmap, and I really love the evolution of Liz Hamren’s team and the work that they’ve done,” Spencer explained. “We’re definitely thinking about different kinds of devices that can bring more games to more places.”

There’s probably some work that we’ll do on the controller. I think Sony’s done a nice job with their controller and we kind of look at some of that and [think] there are things that we should go do.”

There is some precedent to Phil Spencer’s commentary based on a Microsoft survey that was sent out to Xbox Series X/S owners early this year. The survey was particularly specific, asking users if they would be interested in any PlayStation controller features for consoles on Microsoft’s side of the fence. Whether all this will pan out in the future is uncertain, though we know for sure that it’s at the very least a consideration for Microsoft moving forward.
