World Of Warcraft Console Port Won’t Happen, Says Blizzard Producer
Blizzard created an astonishing legacy with their World of Warcraft MMO, which has made leaps and bounds of progress on PC, but that begs the question: what about console? It wasn’t until recent years that this genre of gaming started making its way to console platforms like Microsoft’s Xbox series and Sony’s PlayStation systems. Take Tera and the upcoming Black Desert Online for example. With that being said, does gaming giant have any plans on a World of Warcraft console port? Depending on your stance, their answer may be less than ideal.
According to an interview with DualShockers, a console port isn’t a priority for them. In fact, their focus remains on PC gaming titles and it may very well stay that way. World of Warcraft producer, Daniel Stahl stated:
You know, World of Warcraft is really designed for Personal Computers, I think. There’d have to be so many different changes we’d have to make to make it a console game… We really want to continue making World of Warcraft as it is right now. We’d have to do something entirely different if we wanted to do something for consoles.”
Lead hero designer for Heroes of the Storm, Matt Villers, added:
Our focus is really on PC, it has been from the beginning. There would probably be a lot of changes needed to make the gameplay work on console. No plans in that regard right now.”
So, does that mean a World of Warcraft console port will never happen? Who knows, if the demand is there and Blizzard has the resources to redirect into an all-out effort of bringing it to Xbox and PlayStation, it’s certainly a possibility. However, Villers and Stahl have confirmed that it’s not. At least, there are “no plans” at the moment.
Aside from that, there have been rumors of a Diablo III port for the Nintendo Switch. There are even sources that “confirm” this, but only time will tell. What are your thoughts on MMOs being made available for console platforms? Do you think they belong on PC or should there be a compromise with some titles?
