World of Warcraft Classic Will See Return Of Gates Of Ahn’Qiraj

Warcraft Classic

Next summer will mark the release of World of Warcraft Classic, a recreation of the original 2006 game as fans remember it. Fans who may have been wondering what the plan is for Classic after release got answers at Blizzcon this weekend when game director Ion Hazzikostas discussed their future plans. The plan is pretty exciting for fans who played in 2006 or who might want to experience the original iteration.

World of Warcraft Classic is looking to include every major raid and event from the early game. Ion acknowledged that the journey has always been important and they plan to keep the same pace as the regular MMO. This means players can expect new events, raids, and dungeons every few months.

Molten Core, the Dire Maul Dungeon and Onyxia will be the first additions, bringing world bosses Kazzak and Azuregos. From there World of Warcraft Classic will bring in battlegrounds and PvP rewards, Zul’Gurub, and Blackwing Lair. Following after will be Silithus, Ahn’Qiraj, and green dragons.

Fans who’ve played will recall that Gates of Ahn’Qiraj was one of the most ambitious events in WoW, pitting players against each other as the factions attempt to forge the Scepter of the Shifting Sands. When used to hit a gong that opens the gates, Azeroth is invaded by the hilarious insectoid Qiraji.

After that, there are still plans to release more content making World of Warcraft Classic more than just a limited MMO. The plan is still a work in progress and according to Blizzard, they are planning to work together with fans to help plan out the timing of update releases.
