Vampyr Delayed Until 2018 – Developers of Life is Strange Issue New Statement

Dontnod Entertainment

The team over at DontNod, the developers behind the critically acclaimed Life is Strange, knows how to tell a good story. For those that enjoy the darker aspects of lore, the latest title from the narrative geniuses proved to be something that vampire fans could be excited for. Vampyr is a game where every decision, every action, can have dire consequences but it looks like players can rest easy for a little longer, because those weighty decisions have been delayed … until 2018.

DontNod Entertainment made the official announcement that the original November release date has been pushed back until at least Spring of 2018 via a recently released press statement. They cite “technical issues” for the delay, and asks gamers to be patient as they take the necessary time to polish off the game to ensure that it is 100% up to standards fans want. An incredibly respectable reason for a delay, check out their official statement below concerning Vampyr:

Delaying the release of a project you hold dear is always a tough decision. However, we believe that meeting a deadline should never compromise quality. We were still convinced just a few weeks ago that we would be able to release Vampyr this year. Unfortunately, a technical issue – now solved – has set our teams’ schedule back at the end of the development.

This delay allows us enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr‘s scope, with its ambitious, semi-open world, its complex narrative and deep RPG mechanics that give players a real impact on the world.

We want to thank our publisher Focus Home Interactive for giving us the means and time necessary to provide players a memorable experience… especially since so many of you are eagerly waiting for it.”

Much like Life is Strange, the player will be forced into situations that have a “oh no” choice, and a “OH NO” choice – either way, you’re going to be faced with some uncomfortable feelings. With the premise centering around a newly-turned vampire forced to choose between his hungry nature and his passion as a doctor prior to his infection, there’s going to be more than a few horrific choices to be made in order to survive. The official synopsis of the game is as follows:

London, 1918. You are newly-turned vampire Dr. Jonathan Reid. As a doctor, you must find a cure to save the city’s flu-ravaged citizens. As a vampire, you are cursed to feed on those you vowed to heal. Will you embrace the monster within? Survive and fight against Vampire hunters, undead Skal, and other monstrosities.

Use your unholy powers to manipulate and delve into the lives of those around you to decide who will be your next victim. Struggle to live with your decisions… your actions will save or doom London.

BE THE VAMPYR Fight and manipulate with supernatural abilities
FEED TO SURVIVE Be the savior and the stalker
SHAPE LONDON A web of interconnected citizens reacts to your decisions

At least the highly anticipated title seems to be in careful hands, and as gamers – that’s all we can ask for. What are your thoughts on Vampyr so far?
