Vampire The Masquerade: Coteries Of New York Announced (VIDEO)
Vampire The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 arrives early next year on all three major platforms, returning to a notable RPG franchise of a grim and gothic world of vampires (a.k.a Kindred). Known first for hitting the tabletop scene, the series evolved with various different creations including video games, books, and even a TV show inspired by the universe. Before Bloodlines 2 arrives, however, another official Vampire the Masquerade game titled “Coteries of New York” will launch later this year.
According to developer Draw Distance, Coteries of New York is a fully-licensed game with permission from Paradox Interactive. Set in the same universe as the upcoming Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2, here’s a teaser for what’s to come:
Draw Distance are the same minds behind Serial Cleaner, Halls of Horror, and Ritual among other titles. To temporarily quench the thirst of Vampire the Masquerade fans around the world, they’ve teamed up with the franchise to tell a macabre tale of Kindred in New York. Players will embark on this journey as a “newly-fledged vampire” and learn what it means to exist in the World of Darkness.
Though the gameplay style is currently identified as “Indie” on Steam, based on the details provided so far, it looks as though Coteries of New York will reflect a narrative-driven experience where your choices will have fruitful or dire consequences. Here are a few tidbits from the page:
You act as a newly-fledged vampire in New York. You have to learn what it means to be one of the Kindred in a huge, vibrant, contemporary metropolis. On your way you’ll meet different NPCs – other vampires, thin-bloods, ghouls, humans… and more. You will perform tasks that will put test your humanity and take part in a complex and often brutal struggle for power between the Camarilla and the Anarchs.
You’ll build your Coterie and learn your undead companions’ deepest secrets… or see them abandon you. You’ll feast on the living and will ask yourself about the very nature of humanity and will feel the constant lure of the Beast inside you. You will make choices for the character, including which storylines to pursue and how to approach the different situations presented. You will take part in a narrative experience with branching dialogue choices, memorable characters – all among iconic locales of the Big Apple. You’ll be able to use Disciplines to charm, sneak, intimidate or kill and your choices will determine your path.”
Players get to choose a character from various Clans within the Vampire The Masquerade world, each with unique disciplines, “ethical approaches to certain issues, and dialogues lines.” There will be character-specific quests, a variety of endings, and perfect for new fans and series veterans. It’s been years since the last game, and the fact that fans are getting two in succession? It’s a fantastic time to be alive.
Do you think this Vampire The Masquerade is more your style than the one arriving early next year? How do you feel about the settings they chose for both games – New York and Seattle?
