World of Darkness Film And TV Adaptations In The Works

World of Darkness Film

As Hollywood resumes filming on its major film and television productions, the industry seems eager to make new adaptations of fan-favorite video game franchises. The live-action Borderlands movie has already begun filming, and The Last of Us HBO series is set to begin production later this year as well. One beloved gaming franchise that has seen periods of dormancy that thankfully have been filled in more recent years has been the World of Darkness franchise. While the series has mostly remained only in the tabletop and video gaming worlds in its past, it seems that will change, as new World of Darkness film and TV adaptations are in the works.

World of Darkness Film

As reported by Variety, developer Paradox Interactive has signed off on new World of Darkness film and television adaptations. The series began in 1991 with the tabletop game Vampire: The Masquerade, later producing more tabletop and video games that help expanded the universe into the World of Darkness we now know. Shadow and Bone showrunner Eric Heisserer and The Punisher writer Christine Boylan have been recruited to lead the creative process for the new adaptations under production company Hivemind. The production company’s President and co-founder Jason Brown had this to say about the duo:

Eric and Christine are among the most extraordinary creators working today. They’re also gamers who have played in WOD since it began. It’s a rare opportunity when the connection between storyteller and story runs this deep, and that is the alchemy which has led to many of our favorite and most culturally resonant franchises.”

It’s good to know that the World of Darkness film and tv adaptations will have creative leads behind them that know the series well and what elements are crucial to maintain and translate into such a different medium. As for production company Hivemind, gamers will be glad to know that they are the production company behind Netflix’s live-action adaptation of The Witcher. Given the positive reception for that series, it is safe to say that these new World of Darkness projects are in good hands that can bring the vision of a monster-filled world to life properly. I can’t wait to sink my vampire fangs into these adaptations!
