Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Studio Fired Two Lead Devs

Bloodlines 2 Narrative

Recently, it was confirmed that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was going to be delayed until 2021, with many assuming it would be due to the coronavirus pandemic causing delays in production. That said, it has now been revealed that Hardsuit Labs has parted ways with both the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 narrative lead and creative director.

Paradox Interactive and Hardsuit Labs recently shared the news regarding the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 narrative lead and creative director in a blog on their official Bloodlines 2 website. According to the post, lead narrative designer Brian Mitsoda and creative director Ka’ai Cluney are no longer part of the team. This was apparently a joint decision by both the publisher and developer, though no specific reason is given. The post does say this about the two creatives:

We appreciate, and value, the contributions of Brian and Ka’ai, which were instrumental in establishing the game’s storyline and dark tone and have helped to ensure that we are making a true successor to the iconic Bloodlines. We wish them both the best in their future endeavors.”

The blog confirms that Alexandre Mandryka will serve as a creative consultant in Cluney’s absence. However, Mitsoda will be harder to replace as he was instrumental in the game’s origins, having pitched the original idea and has sacrificed much of his own personal wellness the past two years to Bloodlines 2. According to a recent statement from Mitsoda, he devoted himself so much because he “wanted to do what was best for the game and the team,” and that his sudden termination was beyond shocking.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is currently in development and expected to arrive in 2021. Thankfully the game is close enough to completion that it should be able to reach the end without his guidance. When it does finally release, hopefully that work lives on well past Mitsoda’s tenure, like a vampire surviving for centuries.
