Valve’s Steam Link App Makes PC Games Playable On Your Smartphone
In 2015, Valve introduced the Steam Link during at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, which allows players to stream “all Steam content from any PC or Steam Machine on the same home network”. That also meant gamers were restricted to enjoying their newly purchased titles at home. So for those constantly on the go, but still fondly reminisce over those few hours spent on your favorite games, Valve announces the Steam Link app that allows gamers to enjoy PC titles on their personal smartphone. Rejoice!
Accessibility and convenience makes the world go ’round, that’s for sure. The Steam Link app is expected to launch in just a couple weeks. It will be available for iOS and Android devices as long as they’re connected to a host system (PC, Mac). Players can even use the Steam Controller and various other hardware compatible with their devices. Best of all – it’s free.
The Steam Link app, slated to launch the week of May 21st, allows gamers to experience their Steam library of games on their Android (phone, tablet, TV) and iOS-based (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV) devices while connected via 5Ghz network or wired Ethernet to a host system (Mac or PC), with Android access initially offered in beta. The Steam Link App will feature support for the Steam Controller, MFI controllers, and more across both platforms.
On top of that awesome news, Valve will be releasing the Steam Video app soon, which will allow users to watch thousands of shows and movies from their smart device. It even offers an offline streaming mode for those with inconsistent connections during their commute to work or school. An exact date for this feature has not been revealed yet, but they do intend for a Summer release.
