Ubisoft CEO Teases the Return of the Iconic Splinter Cell Franchise (VIDEO)
The Tom Clancy franchise is one that we’ve seen evolve over the years and Ubisoft isn’t quite done with it yet. From Rainbow Six to Splinter Cell, Ubisoft titles have been created based upon Clancy’s remarkable books since the first Rainbow Six in 1998. This includes the most recent editions to the brand, Ghost Recon: Wildlands – which was a huge hit among fans of the shooter genre taking down the drug cartel in Bolivia. So what about Splinter Cell? It has been at four long years without the iconic stealth-based franchise, there hasn’t even been a release yet on current gen consoles. According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, that could soon change.
E3 was a blur of information on many projects but a new Splinter Cell was suspiciously absent from the celebration. According to a recent AMA on Reddit Guillemot hosted during the event, he did mention that while there is no current project being worked on for the franchise, Ubisoft is looking into developing a new title for the series.
Splinter Cell is a brand we talk about a lot. It’s also personally one of my favorite series. We don’t have anything specific to share at the moment but teams are working on different things, so stay tuned for more.”
He later teased that the company is receiving many sketches and proposals surrounding the brand and fans will be able to see something, however he mentions fans will have to wait. The series is a fan favorite of Guillemot and many players and Ubisoft’s goal is to bring the players what they want and love to play. Let’s hope that this is more than a teaser and is a sign of things to come.
