Troy Baker Won’t Return As Rhys In Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 Rhys Troy Baker

When Gearbox officially revealed the Borderlands 3 trailer recently, fans were beyond thrilled to learn that this was a real thing that was happening. The excitement arose for a number of reasons, including seeing Tales from the Borderlands’ Rhys hanging out with the likes of Zero and Tannis. However, as we have now learned, Troy Baker hasn’t been asked to reprise his role.

There was a clip that recently made its way to the Borderlands 3 subreddit from a Q&A with Baker at the Supanova Melbourne event. The actor was asked if he will be returning to provide the voice of Rhys, and to the surprise of many, he won’t. “I really want Gearbox to know that if they’re going to bring back characters from Telltale Borderlands it should be the people that originated the characters,” Baker said.

I was at Supanova Melbourne yesterday & I managed to ask Troy Baker if he is returning as Rhys in BL3 which he replied with “I’m sorry to break it to y’all, that isn’t me” — (sorry for vertical video, con had rules bout vid recordings during panels) from r/borderlands3

Of course, it’s unfortunate that Baker wasn’t asked to voice Rhys in Borderlands 3. This could have been for a number of reasons. Baker is quite the catch when it comes to voice acting these days, so it might have been out of Gearbox’s budget. In addition to this, it’s anyone’s guess as to how much of a role Rhys plays in the upcoming game. For all we know, he’ll be seen for all of two minutes in the grand scheme of things. Either way, Baker and fans aren’t happy about the decision.

Borderlands 3 is set to arrive on September 13th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
