There were some recent Thief 5 rumors floating around that Eidos Montreal has been working on a game that would correspond with an upcoming film adaption. This came from film studio Straight Up Films, who are still in the pre-production stages of their film. The Thief 5 rumors have been put to rest by Edios Montreal’s studio head David Anfossi, who shut down suspicions in a single cheeky tweet.

The latest Thief reboot released in 2014 to less than stellar reviews. Still, there were a few fans who thoroughly enjoyed the game through its sticky controls and slim story. If anything, it might have been possible to see a better Thief game with the release of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided doing quite well. Both games share a multitude of tools to utilize in the environment and also share a bit of stealthy tactics that could be expanded upon with a new Thief game.

Currently, Eidos Monreal is fairly widespread with their work. Two titles are in the works which include Shadow of the Tomb Raider and an Avengers title partnering with Marvel and Crystal Dynamics. This has put even Deus Ex on hold for a while, so it’s easy to see how silly a Thief 5 game might have been. Still, maybe there’s hope for a Thief 5 in the future.
